Impressive Czech Pilsner pub: smart audio and great lighting
In Plzeňka, located at the Old Town Hall in the Czech Republic, the cherished tradition of the classic pub has been revitalised. Since reopening in the summer, it has become a popular destination for guests seeking exceptional food and beer. Their positive experiences are further enhanced by the inviting ambiance, which is seamlessly managed by Loxone’s intelligent building automation. The historic town centre was demolished in the 1960’s. Recently it has been refurbished in a way that harks back to, and celebrates, the history of the old town. This refurb has included the creation of 50 stylish apartments and a pub. The pub is part of the newly opened franchise Pilsners that aims to bring back memories of the once popular pub in the Old Town Hall. The automation of this Pilsner unit is what this blog will focus on.
High-end audio using new Quadral Master/Client technology
The guest comfort and the smooth running of the pub is greatly influenced by the chosen technology for the building and its subsequent management system.
The new audio system here uses a groundbreaking technology – Master/Client from Loxone. The technology features simplified cabling and perfectly stable signal transmission. It also impresses with many options on the software side (such as zoning according to your needs or automatic adjustment of volume and music genre based on the time of day).
Zone control is easy! The audio system with speakers from Loxone has a beautiful sound, clear in every corner of our restaurant. It creates a great acoustic space where people can talk and not be disturbed by the table next to them.
The speakers, developed in cooperation with the sound system specialist Quadral, ensure top-quality music performance.
The ceilings of the pub have 20 recessed Install Speakers 7’s (4 x Master speakers – with the rest being Client speakers), which create a pleasant atmosphere for lunches and evening drinks.
We rate the Master/Client technology very positively due to its great sound quality. We also liked the simpler cabling implementation, where the individual zones are connected in a bus (daisy chain) fashion. Subsequent wiring was also very easy. Moreover, with active speakers, all the problems with other elements of the audio system, such as amplifiers, are eliminated. We also saved space in the cabinet – for the audio, we only needed to install the Audioserver for control and a power supply unit.
Lighting with automation functions and comfortable temperature
A pleasant environment also includes quality lighting. The most visible element of the lighting solution here are the hanging lights above the tables, which are in a green colour scheme typical for Pilsner pubs. The lighting is complemented by, for example, spotlights embedded in the ceilings or LED strips.
The luminaire control is provided by Loxone, which automatically illuminates the guest areas during operating hours. The lighting operates in several scenes, which themselves switches depending on the time of day, which is of course linked to the atmosphere and occupancy of the pub.
If the lighting needs to be adjusted manually, the staff can easily do so on a centralised tablet, through the Loxone App. The same controls and automation are also used for the heating. Ensuring guests always feel comfortable.
Plus, the Loxone Installation Partner also took advantage of Loxone’s open interfaces and connected it to a Jablotron’s security system that is being used to protect the pub.

The owner of Pilsner, Jiří Zajíček, chose intelligent automation of technologies because it has proven itself in his own house.
The installation Partner programmed the system to be used in a commercial pub setting. “The owner of Plzeňka operates several restaurants. He plans to deploy the technology in other businesses with the existing, traditionally designed audio system, i.e. without Loxone, with classic amplifiers,” mentions Filip Křižka from Loxone Partner KW Data, the company that installed the smart technology in the restaurant.
