24/7 SMART Store of the future: How BistroBox and Loxone set new standards for franchise restaurants

The concept behind BistroBox
BistroBox now operates 50 locations throughout Austria and offers a unique, fully automated experience for hungry customers. The centrepiece of the concept is the fully automated pizza oven, which prepares oven-fresh pizzas on the spot. Of course, drinks and coffees can are also be included in the order too! Customers can place their orders at any time of day or night and pick them up within just a few minutes – without the need for any staff to assist them.
How Loxone makes this concept possible
Loxone is an integral part of the BistroBrain technology and ensures the automation of lighting, climate, shading and audio within the stores. But that’s not all. The Loxone solution makes it possible to control the vending machines remotely, collect and analyse data from them, and integrate numerous other functions into the store. The Loxone Miniserver, as always, is the central brain that coordinates all processes and drives the digitalisation of the company forward.
One particular highlight of a BistroBox store is the hybrid concept at the ‘service area of the future’. Here, BistroBox combines fully automated preparation with a ‘One Man Corner’, where an employee offers an additional range of products and cash payment options. This is controlled automatically via the ‘automatic shading’ module: if the roller blind is up, the kiosk displays an additional range of products and the option to pay in cash. If the blind is down, it is not visible to guests at all and so is therefore unavailable at this time.
Thanks to Loxone’s open interface, different systems can communicate seamlessly with each other. For example, the pizza oven sends a command to the Loxone system when the pizza is 10 seconds away from being ready, and an audio file is sent to the Loxone system when the pizza is ready and then from there the Audioserver informs the customer that they can pick up their pizza. This sophisticated integration not only improves customer service, but also optimises operational processes.
