What is AAL?
Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) is a term used to describe unobtrusive monitoring and support for elderly people to allow them to live as independently as possible. These days, the right technology can be individually adapted and customised to support individuals with the everyday tasks that they might need help with.
CuraeVitel – Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) in practice
In CuraeVitel Balie, 2,300 flats were equipped with Loxone building automation technology. Falls and/or unusual behaviour are intelligently identified through a range of sensor and reported to the management team – allowing them to act if necessary.Â
The use of automation technology, not only gives the residency a better quality of life it also relieves the careers of many of their daily tasks – allowing them to focus on the more important areas of their jobs.Â
Advantages for
residents
As our life expectancies increase, a large percentage of people want to grow old in their own home and to be as self-sufficient as possible – even if some level of care becomes necessary.
Home & Building Automation can help facilitate this by taking care of a range of tasks in the background while also keeping a protective eye out by monitoring for anything unusual.
Not only does this improve people’s quality of life, but it can also help to reassure family members that everything is taken care of.
One of the massive advantages of Loxone is that the solution can be individually adapted to suit the exact requirements of a specific person.
Advantages for
Care-givers
Of course, AAL automation is great for residents however, it’s also great for those who provide care.
Care workers are usually extremely busy, working long hours. By using automation technology some of the weight can be lifted off their shoulders – allowing them to focus on the more crucial areas of their jobs.
For specialist care facilities, including automation in your properties increases the comfort for both residents and carers – meaning that you’ll be one of the most sought-after establishments.
Ambient Assisted Living
12 ways Loxone enables independent living:
Fall detection
Presence can be monitored through the use of a Presence Sensor and/or Door & Window Contacts. If no activity is detected for a certain period of time, an emergency call will be made to a relative or carer using the Caller Service.
Emergency Button
In the event of an emergency, it’s crucial that they have the ability to let people know as quickly as possible. The Button Air and the Wrist Button Air are perfect for enabling emergency calls.
Reminders
To help in keeping to the routine of taking any required medication, Loxone’s text-to-speech function can play a reminder at a certain time every day.
Access for emergency services
In an emergency, Loxone can flash the lights and automatically unlock the front door to help the emergency services.Â
Behaviour changes
Loxone can be used to recognised behaviour changes, such as a significant increase in visits to the bathroom.
Electrical device monitoring
With Loxone, electrical devices can be monitored and, if necessary, be automatically switched off.
Night light
To help prevent feeling around for a switch in the dark, a soft night lighting mood is automatically brought on when the person gets out of bed.
All-round protection
Smoke Detectors and Presence Sensors help to monitor the entire building. If there’s a break-in or smoke is detected, an alarm is triggered and relatives are informed.
Locked out?
Relatives or careers can open the door remotely or leave access codes for the neighbours, emergency services, etc.Â
Automatic lighting
To save energy costs lighting is automatically switched on when presence is detected and then switched off when you’re done in that room.
High air quality
With Loxone, the overall air quality can be monitored and controlled – this means temperature, humidity and CO2 levels.Â
Zoned HeatingÂ
With Loxone, you can set individual temperatures for different rooms – this is done on a schedule so rooms are only heated when they need to be.
