With its 70-year history, the Tradition Julen Hotel is a real institution in the picturesque village of Zermatt, at the foot of the Matterhorn. In 2018, the traditional hotel was modernized and equipped with Loxone. Since then, the Miniserver has been handling many aspects of building automation.

Since then, the Miniserver has been putting the brakes on energy costs while significantly increasing comfort for both staff and guests at the iconic hotel.

Intelligent integration with the booking system
A standout feature is the integration of the Protel hotel management system in the building control system. Data such as the guest’s name, language, check-in, and check-out dates are sent to the Miniserver via the network, thanks to a custom interface programmed by WND (Loxone API, WND Server/Client, and SignalR).
If a room is marked as unoccupied in the booking system, its behavior is automatically adjusted. For example, the temperature is lowered and only raised again when a new guest is expected.
After the guests leave, all customer settings, such as the preferred room temperature, are reset to the default values.

Lighting, Climate & Co. – Control via switch and WND Hotel TV
At the Tradition Julen Hotel, the Miniserver automates the control of lighting, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation, ensuring the perfect comfort for its discerning guests.
What makes it special: Should guests wish to make manual adjustments, they can do so as usual via the Loxone Touch – or via the interactive WND Hotel TV.
The TV system, developed by our Gold Partner WND AG, not only allows guests to watch TV, stream movies, and use apps, but also gives them the ability to adjust room temperature and lighting ambiance directly on the TV through the remote control.
The communication and data exchange between the TV and the Miniserver are handled through a network interface.
Everything at a glance – Thanks to powerful visualization
In a hotel, many parameters need to be monitored. The chlorine levels in the pool, the comfort temperatures in the rooms and their occupancy, the perfect ambient lighting in the restaurant and the opening status of countless doors and windows are just a few examples.
Thanks to our powerful software solutions, the operators of the Tradition Julen Hotel have all the important information readily available and can quickly assess at a glance whether everything is in order.

The “housekeeping mode”
When the cleaning team enters a room, they activate “housekeeping mode” by triple-clicking the switch next to the entrance door. To ensure suitable lighting, all lights are activated at 100% brightness in this housekeeping mode. Additionally, the front desk is notified via the visualization system about the current cleaning status.
Once the cleaning is complete, the front desk is also informed via the switch that the room is ready for the new guest.

Control and visualization of the spacious spa area
The hotel’s expansive spa area spans three floors. Whether it’s the fitness room, sauna, or pool area, the Miniserver handles crucial tasks everywhere. For example, the chlorine level and water temperature of the pool are continuously monitored. Should any unexpected deviations occur, the hotel team is immediately notified and can intervene promptly.

In conclusion, our experience has been very positive. We now have a very flexible solution that is definitely “state of the art” and therefore also meets the expectations of the market. As a family-owned SME, it is important for us to be able to compete with the international hotel chains in this area as well.
