The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an open communication protocol and the global standard for communication when charging electric vehicles. With the Loxone Miniserver and the NFC Code Touch, you can easily make your charging station billable.

Where is OCPP needed?

With the increasing number of electric vehicles, the ability to bill charging stations is becoming more and more important. The combination of the Loxone Miniserver and the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) offers a flexible and cost-effective solution. This connection enables precise tracking and simple billing – ideal for shared charging stations in multi-party buildings or companies. In this blog, we will show you how to make your wallbox billable by connecting it to an OCPP server.

To make your Wallbox billable with Loxone via OCPP, you need:

Loxone Miniserver:
The heart of your building automation, which communicates the data over the network to the OCPP server.

OCPP-Server:
Several providers offer OCPP backends for administration and billing. Alternatively, you can self-host an OCPP server yourself for more data control and customization.

NFC Code Touch:
Allows easy authentication at the charging station so that users can start the charging process securely via RFID roaming cards or locally via NFC.

Wallbox with Energy Meter:
A compatible Wallbox with energy meter records the energy consumption and transmits the data to the Loxone Miniserver for precise billing and monitoring, either locally or via the OCPP server.

Benefits for your building and users

With OCPP integration via the Loxone Miniserver, your Wallbox becomes a fully functional billing station that records charging processes transparently and securely. Users can authorize and control the charging process. This combination is not only efficient, but also future-proof, as you can expand the system as needed.
