Energy prices are skyrocketing
– how you can prepare for the colder months
While you might not feel the full extent of the energy crisis right now, the increase in prices will undoubtedly hit us with full force in the upcoming months! Countries such as Germany can see it in the prices for new contracts, as those are already significantly more expensive than they were a year ago. Plus, there is no end in sight to the cost explosion due to the extremely unstable market.

5.000 € more! Costs for classic energy mix are increasing by 140%
From now on, we can expect our wallets to suffer extremely under the increase in energy cost. Many households will not be able to afford this price explosion, or at least not without drastic cuts.
The example of a classic energy mix in Germany as a combination of electricity and gas shows how serious the price increase is.
Electricity

Germany’s largest comparison portal states that the average gas price for Berlin Mitte (duration 12 months with 20,000 kWh consumption (reference value for apartments with 180m²)) currently lays at €6,493. Comparable existing customers currently pay €2,276. That corresponds to a price increase of 180%! (Quelle: Verivox)
Electricity is also significantly more expensive. While the cost still lay at €1,323 (12-month term with 4,250 kWh consumption (guide value for a 4-person household)), new customers now have to pay an average of €2,257. That’s an increase of 70%! (Quelle: Verivox)
In total, these are additional costs of €5,151 per year! So far – because many experts assume that prices will continue to rise.
Existing customers also have to pay the price
Anyone who is under the impression that they won’t be affected by the price increases due to existing contracts is hugely mistaken. The energy providers may be entitled to adapt existing contracts themselves (e.g. through the new §24 of the Energy Security Act in Germany).
